Job summary

The University of Missouri–St. Louis is seeking a Senior Finance and Accounting Specialist to manage patient billing, insurance claims, and receivable activities in the College of Optometry.

The role focuses on verifying coverage, processing claims, and producing analytical billing reports to improve reimbursement cycles. Responsibilities include denial analysis, payer communications, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while maintaining high accuracy and customer service

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of related experience.
• 4-5 years accounts receivable bookkeeping experience preferred.
• 2+ years experience in medical or optometric patient accounts preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance coverage, patient benefits and compile itemized bills.
• Verify accuracy of information on claims and communicate with payers as needed.
• Create, maintain and analyze billing and insurance reports (denials, status, trends).
• Answer patient questions regarding billing statements and coverage.
• Process insurance and/or payment claims with accuracy and productivity standards.
• Monitor and follow up on unpaid claims and coordinate with collection activities as needed.
