Job summary

University of Maryland Faculty Physicians is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nursing staff in patient care. You will assist with patient flow, take vitals, administer injections, prepare exam/treatment rooms, and help manage testing and specimen collection in accordance with SOPs.

CPR certification and MA program completion are required. Experience with electronic medical records and ability to direct other medical assistants may be needed.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant certification required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• 6+ years medical assisting and 3+ years of specialty experience.
• CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
• Follows guidelines to obtain testing prior to the exam and prepares patient for examination.
• Performs routine office testing including phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision and hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, vital signs.
• Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.
• Obtains specimens for diagnostic testing including cultures where applicable.
• Administers injections and documents medications given.
• Clarifies patient instructions and test preparations for procedures.

Education

High school diploma or GED (preferred)

Medical Assistant certification

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
