Job summary

The University of Virginia seeks a Medical Assistant to support nursing and providers, perform clinical intake, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing, and assist with wound care and medication administration. The role requires 3 years of clinical experience, BLS, and MA certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 years clinical experience required.
• AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
• Current Medical Assistant Certification from recognized national association (AAMA, AMT, NAHP, ARMA, or NHA).
• EMT or Paramedic certification per Virginia requirements.

Responsibilities

• Communicate patient status and changes to the RN or LIP.
• Assist with clinic operations and communication with team, providers, and patients.
• Assist with data collection, documentation, and clinical intake.
• Provide clinical support during examinations and procedures (specimen collection, testing, wound care, med administration).
• Organize and prioritize patient care activities considering team needs.
• Deliver age-appropriate interventions as directed by RN or provider.
• Reinforce patient education per plan and approved materials.
• Maintain a safe environment and supply/equipment readiness.
• Provide administrative support and assist with scheduling, forms, and in-basket messaging.
