Job summary

Textron Systems is seeking a Sr Mechanical Engineering Technician to provide mechanical support for design, integration, and maintenance of systems across land robotics and unmanned air vehicles for military and commercial programs. Expect field testing, lab work, and travel to remote sites to support crews and equipment.

Ideal candidates will have an associate degree or technical training and 2+ years of experience, strong mechanical aptitude, hydraulic knowledge, and the ability to read

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree preferred or related technical training and 2 or more years of experience.
• Basic knowledge of procedures and technical theory in assigned product areas.
• General mechanical aptitude
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems and theory
• Able to organize and set up test with minimal guidance
• Willing to travel up to 25% with international travel possible
• Basic computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, database & technical drawing packages
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Metal fabrication skills is a plus
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance
• Must be a team player and able to work with minimum supervision
• Ability to operate heavy machinery like forklifts and overhead cranes
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
• Ability to work extended hours to meet program goals
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasking
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
• Ability to work on naval vessels
• Ability to work in tight quarters and confined spaces
• Working knowledge of military specifications is a plus

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate land robotic systems and support equipment
• Maintain unmanned air vehicles and propulsion systems
• Troubleshoot small and large engines and general powertrain systems
• Work with hydraulic based components
• Assist engineers and designers with prototype development and testing
• Support offsite testing and demonstrations
• Actively perform lab maintenance, safety audits, and material tracking
• Use small and large hand and power tools
• Identify and document work order instruction or drawing errors,
• Maintain logbooks and records.
• Strong ability to interpret drawings and schematics
• This position does not directly provide leadership or supervision to other employees.
