Job summary

Blue Origin's In-Space Systems unit seeks a Mechanical Systems Engineer III to shape mechanical hardware enabling on-orbit infrastructure and mobility missions. You will design, analyze, and optimize components from concept to CAD models, balancing mass, volume, and performance while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

This role supports payload accommodation, structural analyses, and specification development. Travel is <25%. A relevant degree and eligibility for U.S. government clearance are required; relocation assistance is available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years in mechanical engineering with exposure to systems engineering principles.
  • Experience with CAD software and basic structural analysis.
  • Experience with aerospace mechanical systems, structures, and mechanisms.
  • Foundational knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship or eligible status (per policy).

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and optimize mechanical hardware for space applications.
  • Support study-level mechanical design efforts and concept exploration.
  • Develop structural and mechanical specifications for aerospace products and operations.
  • Contribute to payload accommodation solutions balancing mass, volume, and performance.
  • Perform basic structural analysis to validate concepts and identify improvements.
  • Create detailed CAD plans to support production and integration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve mechanical interface issues.
  • Translate system-level requirements into mechanical design specifications.
  • Support trade studies evaluating design options against mission requirements.
  • Document decisions, analyses, and design rationales for reviews.
