Job summary

Aquatech in Albany, Oregon seeks a Senior Mechanical Systems & Applications Engineer to lead product development and membrane-system integration. You will design membrane modules, pilot systems, and related equipment, translating process needs into layouts, BOMs, drawings, and specs.

Responsibilities include testing, field support, production collaboration, and cross-functional leadership across engineering, operations, and sales.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Progressive experience designing and integrating industrial equipment, fluid-handling systems, process skids, or membrane-based systems.
• Working knowledge of pumps, piping, valves, pressure-containing equipment, instrumentation, materials of construction, and mechanical design practices.
• Experience creating or reviewing equipment layouts, fabrication drawings, schematics, P&IDs, bills of materials, and technical specifications.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment and system performance using field observations, test data, and structured engineering analysis.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including occasional short-notice travel.

• Evaluate customer requirements to determine technical fit of FO, OARO, RO, NF, and related membranes.
• Support process and system sizing, equipment selection, and pretreatment considerations.
• Prepare technical inputs for proposals, customer discussions, and design reviews.
• Develop test plans and support lab, pilot, and field testing of membrane systems.
• Travel domestically and internationally based on project and customer needs.

Aquatech immediately needs a full-time Senior Mechanical Systems & Applications Engineer to work in our Albany, Oregon office. The hours of this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Job Summary

This role is responsible for leading product development, membrane production, application testing, and engineering support for advanced flat-sheet membrane technologies, including Forward Osmosis (FO), nanofiltration (NF), seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO), and osmotically assisted reverse osmosis (OARO) membranes with low salt rejection characteristics.

Job Description

Mechanical System Design & Integration

• Develop and refine mechanical designs for membrane modules, skids, pilot systems, test fixtures, piping arrangements, and related balance-of-plant equipment.
• Translate process requirements into equipment layouts, component specifications, bills of materials, drawings, calculations, and design documentation.
• Integrate pumps, pressure vessels, valves, instrumentation, piping, controls interfaces, and membrane components into complete systems.
• Perform design reviews focused on safety, operability, maintainability, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
• Coordinate with internal engineering staff, suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturing partners to move designs from concept through release and implementation.

Applications Engineering

• Evaluate customer and project requirements to determine the technical fit of FO, OARO, RO, NF, and related membrane solutions.
• Support process and system sizing, equipment selection, operating-envelope definition, pretreatment considerations, and proposal-level technical development.
• Partner with sales and business teams to clarify requirements, identify technical risks, and communicate practical solution options.
• Prepare technical inputs for proposals, customer discussions, design reviews, and internal decision-making.

Testing, Piloting & Field Support

• Develop test plans and support laboratory, pilot, and field testing of membrane systems and applications.
• Analyze operating data, document results, identify failure modes, and recommend design or operating improvements.
• Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance verification at customer, partner, and pilot locations.
• Travel domestically and internationally, including occasional short-notice travel, based on project and customer needs.

Production & Product Support

• Provide engineering support for membrane module and element production, including work instructions, fixtures, quality criteria, and technical issue resolution.
• Coordinate production and element-rolling activities performed by internal teams or external manufacturing partners.
• Support changes that improve consistency, yield, assembly, testability, and product readiness.
• Maintain clear technical documentation and support controlled release of drawings, specifications, work instructions, and product updates.

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership

• Lead assigned technical workstreams and coordinate contributors without broad site or departmental management responsibility.
• Provide subject-matter guidance to engineering, operations, sales, and field teams on membrane system design and application issues.
• Contribute technical information to invention disclosures, product documentation, and intellectual property activities as requested.
• Manage priorities, risks, and deliverables for assigned projects and communicate constraints early.
