HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Specialist to join our Power Generation team based in Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will manage mechanical engineering projects, coordinate with various engineering teams, and ensure the timely execution of power generation projects.

Job description

Senior Mechanical Specialist – Power Generation

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Specialist to join our Power Generation team. The successful candidate will lead the project mechanical team, coordinate with other engineering disciplines, monitor project status, and execute mechanical engineering tasks for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects across utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead mechanical engineering design and execution for power generation projects.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Prepare and review construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage design projects, ensuring adherence to technical and contractual requirements.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field
  • Master’s degree in business or engineering
  • Experience with gas turbine, steam turbine, and/or large reciprocating engine
  • Design experience with simple and combined cycle power generation facilities
  • Prior experience with engineering power consulting or EPC firm
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Willingness to obtain Professional Engineering Licensure
  • Proficient schedule and budget management
  • Extensive experience in Power Generation project execution
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit)
  • Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 15 years of engineering experience in the discipline
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline
  • Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary environments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attitude and commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture
