Job summary

PCI Pharma Services is seeking an experienced Maintenance Leader to oversee mechanical maintenance operations in a 24/7 pharmaceutical manufacturing setting. You will lead a multi-shift team of mechanical managers and reliability supervisors, ensuring staffing, training, and compliance with GMP and labor agreements.

You will drive reliability programs, RCA processes, and cost controls while partnering with HR, procurement and production to optimize uptime and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/industrial engineering or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years leading maintenance teams in a unionized manufacturing facility.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech/advanced manufacturing and supporting 24/7 operations.
  • Experience with GMP requirements and pharmaceutical processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate mechanical maintenance across all shifts.
  • Directly manage mechanical managers and reliability supervisors.
  • Ensure proper staffing, coverage, and skill distribution.
  • Establish standardized shift handoff processes.
  • Lead maintenance operations in a unionized environment with compliance to bargaining agreements.
  • Serve as liaison with union reps on maintenance matters.
  • Address grievances and workforce concerns per HR and labor agreements.
  • Promote fairness, accountability and engagement within standards.
  • Collaborate with HR on workforce planning and negotiations support.
  • Monitor overtime and labor utilization.
  • Own and improve Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs.
  • Implement reliability-centered maintenance to maximize uptime.
  • Lead RCA and corrective action for equipment failures.
  • Develop KPIs like MTBF, MTTR, uptime/downtime trends.
  • Ensure optimal stocking levels to support uptime.
  • Partner with procurement on vendor relationships and cost control.
  • Implement systems for critical spare identification, inventory accuracy, obsolescence reduction.
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma and continuous improvement to maintenance.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce downtime, improve changeovers, and boost labor productivity.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, EHS and Supply Chain.
  • Support installation/startup of new equipment and capital projects.
  • Ensure training, documentation and integration into maintenance systems.
  • Develop visual management and standard work practices.
  • Manage department budget (labor, parts, capex).
  • Develop and track maintenance KPIs and cost.
  • Identify and deliver cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety.
  • Ensure regulatory and company compliance and safe practices.
  • Oversee multi-shift maintenance for 24/7 operations.
  • Manage performance, workforce planning, development and succession.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate mechanical maintenance activities across all shifts.
  • Directly manage mechanical managers and reliability supervisors and ensure clear communication, accountability, and performance alignment across the workforce.
  • Ensure proper staffing, coverage, and skill distribution to meet production and maintenance requirements.
  • Establish standardized shift handoff processes to ensure continuity and visibility of work.
  • Lead maintenance operations within a unionized workforce environment, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Serve as primary liaison between management and union representatives for maintenance-related matters.
  • Address grievances, disciplinary actions, and workforce concerns in alignment with HR and labor agreements.
  • Promote a culture of fairness, accountability, and engagement while maintaining operational standards.
  • Collaborate with HR on workforce planning, contract interpretation, and negotiations support.
  • Monitor overtime, scheduling efficiency, and labor utilization.
  • Own and continuously improve the Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs.
  • Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices to maximize equipment uptime and asset life.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action processes for equipment failures.
  • Develop and track key metrics such as:
    • MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure)
    • MTTR (Mean Time to Repair)
    • Equipment uptime and downtime trends
    • Ensure optimal stocking levels to support uptime while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Partner with procurement to manage vendor relationships, lead times, and cost control.
  • Implement systems for:
    • Critical spare identification
    • Inventory accuracy and cycle counts
    • Obsolescence reduction
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to maintenance processes.
  • Lead initiatives focused on:
    • Reduced downtime
    • Improved changeovers
    • Increased labor productivity
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain to meet operational objectives.

Education and Experience

  • Pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology, or advanced manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting 24/7 shift operations.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems, manufacturing equipment, and maintenance best practices.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and GMP requirements.

    • Bottle and vial processing equipment
    • Sterilization technologies
  • High-speed packaging systems
  • Automated production equipment
  • Strong reliability engineering and asset management expertise.
  • Experience with CMMS systems (SAP or equivalent).

  • Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
