Job summary

TYLin's Rail + Transit team is expanding. We seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead design and delivery of HVAC and vertical transportation systems for complex rail infrastructure in North America, with emphasis on NYC/MTA interfaces.

You will guide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, manage design packages, and mentor staff to deliver integrated station and facility solutions. You will collaborate with architects, structural, electrical, and life-safety disciplines,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master's preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in rail, transit, or complex facilities.
• Deep expertise in HVAC design for underground/enclosed infrastructure.
• Experience leading elevator/vertical transportation design for stations and facilities.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA, ASHRAE, NYC Building Code and transit agency design criteria.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage design deliverables on major capital programs.
• Excellent communication skills and client-facing experience with agencies like MTA/WMATA.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of HVAC and building systems for transit stations, tunnels, and rail facilities.
• Serve as technical authority for vertical transportation systems (elevators and accessibility).
• Manage design packages from concept through final design including drawings, specs, and reports.
• Oversee calculations, airflow modeling, sizing and performance-based design.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes.
• Collaborate with architects, structural, electrical, life safety, and systems teams.
• Provide project management leadership, scheduling, budgeting, and client interface.
• Mentor and develop mechanical staff to grow capability in Rail + Transit.
• Participate in design reviews, QA/QC, and technical decision-making.
