Job summary

TYLin is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Design Lead in New York to lead HVAC and vertical transportation design for rail stations and transit facilities, delivering integrated mechanical systems for complex underground and urban projects.

This senior role combines technical leadership with project management, coordinating with architects, structures, electrical and life-safety teams, mentoring staff, and interfacing with clients such as the MTA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• 10+ years in mechanical engineering, rail/transit or complex facilities.
• PE license strongly preferred; experience with underground infrastructure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of HVAC and building systems for transit stations and facilities.
• Serve as authority for vertical transportation systems, including elevators.
• Manage design packages from concept to final design with drawings and reports.
• Oversee calculations, airflow modeling, system sizing, performance-based design.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, ASHRAE, NYC Building Code and transit standards.
• Collaborate with architects, structures, electrical, life-safety teams for integrated solutions.
• Provide project management, supporting schedules, budgets, and client interface.
• Mentor mechanical staff and grow TYLin’s design capability in Rail + Transit.
