Job summary

Worley Group, Inc. in Baton Rouge, LA seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical engineering efforts from concept to commissioning on complex oil, gas, chemical, and petrochemical projects.

You will develop equipment data sheets, specifications, and bid evaluations, while guiding a multi-disciplinary team. The ideal candidate has 10+ years in capital projects and 7+ years leading engineering design, with strong leadership, communication, and regulatory expertise.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading mechanical engineering scope on brownfield and greenfield projects within oil, gas, chemical, petrochemical, power, and bulk materials sectors.
• Familiarity with Pre-FEED, FEED, Detail Design phases and required deliverables.
• Demonstrated expertise in materials, design, fabrication, inspection, and testing of mechanical equipment.
• Experience with applicable industry standards (ASME, API, etc.).
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively with other disciplines and support customer design reviews.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and sound judgment in regulated environments.
• 10+ years of overall project experience; 7+ years in lead/related roles with design of oil and gas/chemical industries.
• Advanced MS Office skills; excellent oral and written communication.
• Registered Professional Engineer license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering leadership from concept through commissioning, including equipment selection and system integration.
• Support mechanical engineering activities on capital projects under supervision of Lead Mechanical Engineer and Mechanical Engineering Manager.
• Develop and review mechanical effort-hour estimates and project schedules.
• Coordinate with piping, process, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation, and procurement teams to align with project requirements.
• Develop specifications, design calculations, and drawings for mechanical equipment; ensure compliance with codes and standards.
• Support procurement and vendor document reviews; lead technical bid evaluations and supplier communications.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers and designers; participate in risk assessments and design reviews.
• Maintain knowledge of codes and best practices; ensure safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
