Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead in-house development of SDV electronics enclosures. You will own mechanical design, development, and review of Electrical Controllers for next-gen SDV architecture, partnering across internal teams and with suppliers.

The role requires 10+ years in electronics housing design, NX/Teamcenter expertise, and strong CAD/FEA skills; emphasis on EMI shielding, sealing, and thermal management.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years in design and development of electronics housings and enclosures.
• Experience designing for EMI/shielding, sealing, and thermal management.
• Strong collaboration across teams and multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Execute mechanical design of electronics packaging per program timing.
• Design mechanical components including castings, stampings, seals, PCBA mounts.
• Perform design calculations, GD&T and tolerance stacks.
• Create 3D-CAD math and lead CAD reviews.
• Develop analysis and test plans; perform concept tests and analysis.
• Perform FEA (structural, vibration, shock, fatigue).
• Lead prototyping, testing, and data-driven adjustments.
• Lead DFx with suppliers and cost optimization.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate components.
• Communicate progress and risks to stakeholders.
