Job summary

General Motors is seeking a PCB Layout Hardware Design Engineer to lead in-house development of ECU electrical design for next‑gen SDV architecture. You will design and review PCB layouts, collaborate with circuit and packaging teams, and coach suppliers to timely execution.

Hybrid work across Warren, MI or Sunnyvale, CA with regular on-site collaboration. The role emphasizes DFM/DFT, DFA, high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet), and design for manufacturability while meeting GM specs and safety

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.
Experience creating digital/analog HW interfaces including schematic creation and PCB layout, simulation and documentation.
Up to 7 years working experience in PCB layout design.
Experience in design & analysis tools like Mentor Graphics (schematic & layout).

Responsibilities

Create and design the physical layout of ICs or PCBs with proper routing and components.
Run design rule checks (DRC) and design for manufacturability (DFM) verifications.
Collaborate with circuit, system, and packaging teams to meet design constraints.
Select target technology and process based on project requirements.
Optimize layout with SI/PI/EMC/Thermal/Mechanical input for performance and reliability.
Support ECAD librarians to meet DFMs and GM resiliency requirements.
Work with procurement and supply chain to select components for PCBA design.
Apply DFA principles to optimize assembly processes.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions in PCBA manufacturing.
