Job summary

General Motors in Sunnyvale seeks a Senior Mechanical Hardware Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of ECU connector and header solutions, focusing on power, high‑speed signals, RF, and I/O interfaces.

You will own connector hardware from concept through production release, collaborate with electrical and systems engineers, PCB designers, packaging, manufacturing, and suppliers to deliver robust, environmentally protected and production‑ready solutions for next‑generation

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 6–10+ years mechanical design experience in complex electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with headers and connectors design for power, high‑speed signals, RF and I/O.
  • Hands‑on with connector terminals, bus bars, seals, and PCB/housing integration.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing considerations, and sealing components for connector systems.
  • Proficiency in NX and Teamcenter for parametric models, drawings, BOMs, and released data.
  • Strong GD&T and tolerance analysis; mechanical fundamentals.
  • Experience collaborating with electrical engineers, PCB designers, and suppliers.
  • Excellent communication and multi-tasking to meet program timing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical development of ECU headers and connector interfaces for power, high‑speed signals, and I/O.
  • Own connector content from concept through production release.
  • Define and develop connector terminals architectures and bus bar solutions.
  • Select materials for terminals, insulators, seals, and housings.
  • Develop sealing strategies for connector‑to‑housing interfaces.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in NX; manage Teamcenter content.
  • Apply GD&T and tolerance analysis to ensure fit and manufacturability.
  • Coordinate with electrical engineers on pinout, PCB attachment, and packaging.
  • Support EMI‑aware connector and enclosure integration.
  • Develop and execute design verification plans; prototype builds and tests.
  • Collaborate with analysis teams for structural/thermal evaluations.
  • Lead DFx reviews with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
  • Communicate progress and risks in cross‑functional reviews.
