Job summary

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience.
• Engineering degree required.
• Experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer for solid rocket motors.
• Experience with mechanical design integration of solid propulsion systems.
• Experience with mechanical system design, mass properties, and integrating sub-assemblies.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Analytical thinking skills.
• Knowledge of applied mechanics.
• Knowledge of design engineering and design optimization.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate mechanical components used in solid rocket motor systems.
• Create CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for motor cases, nozzles, insulation systems, joints, and structural interfaces.
• Apply advanced engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test mechanically functioning equipment.
• Guide interpretation of blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
• Collaborate with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
• Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate design feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements.
• Specify system components or direct product modifications to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
• Investigate equipment failures and difficulties, diagnose faulty operation, and make recommendations to maintenance crews.
• May lead functional teams or projects.
• Travel up to 25% likely.
