Job summary

TAR is building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies and is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own hardware end-to-end. This mid-to-senior IC role is based at our San Francisco robotics facility, with field time at our GW-scale campus in West Texas.

You will design deployment machines, choose materials, ensure manufacturability, and hand off to fabrication partners, taking machines from prototype to reliable fleet.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of mechanical design experience on robotic or electromechanical systems.
• Experience taking hardware from CAD to field-installed systems in rapid iteration.
• Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks or equivalent) with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Design for manufacturing knowledge across metals and machining.
• Ownership mindset with comfort operating in ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Design the mechanical architecture of deployment machines including chassis and actuators.
• Perform kinematic analysis, motor sizing, and gearbox selection.
• Convert CAD designs to detailed drawings and GD&T for vendor handoff.
• Test and iterate prototypes under harsh field conditions in West Texas.
• Own vendor relationships and guide production ramp from prototype to fleet.
