Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for Upington, Northern Cape to lead mechanical system design for solar and wind projects. You will drive concept to completion, ensuring reliability and cost-effectiveness in energetic renewable deployments.

The role requires 7+ years in mechanical engineering, strong CAD/FEA skills, and PE eligibility or equivalent; collaboration with electrical teams and field technicians is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on renewable energy systems (solar, wind).
• Proven experience in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and FEA tools.
• In-depth knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science, and structural analysis.
• Experience in project management, including planning, scheduling, and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and development of mechanical components and systems for renewable energy projects.
• Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical evaluations for new projects.
• Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs using CAD software.
• Perform stress and thermal analyses and other simulations to ensure system integrity and performance.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful delivery.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers and field technicians.
• Oversee manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases of mechanical systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical engineering issues during project execution.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety codes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and product design.
