Job summary
Placements24 seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to drive innovation in energy systems. Based in Welkom, Free State, the role requires leadership across design, analysis, and development of high-performance mechanical assemblies for power generation and storage.
You will mentor engineers, coordinate CAE analyses, and contribute to technology roadmaps while staying ahead of industry trends in renewable energy.
Qualifications
- PhD or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or structural mechanics.
- Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and analysis, with a focus on energy systems or turbomachinery.
- Expert proficiency with advanced CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA) and advanced FEA/CFD tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, Star-CCM+).
Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of advanced mechanical systems for energy generation and storage.
- Perform detailed analyses: stress, thermal, vibration, fatigue using CAE tools.
- Develop technical specs, drawings, and documentation for complex assemblies.
- Collaborate with electrical, materials, and PMs to deliver integrated solutions.
- Oversee testing and validation to ensure performance and reliability.
- Mentor a team of mechanical engineers and drive technical excellence.
