Job summary

Jobtailor in Newark, CA is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team focused on products with multiple powered DOFs. You will design, build and test systems and critical components to meet client metrics.

You will drive architecture decisions, perform analyses from concept to production, and manage budgets and schedules as the primary client contact with coordination across offices.

Qualifications

• BSME required, MSME preferred.
• 8+ years of system-level design experience from concept through manufacturing.
• Project management experience leading a cross-functional team.
• Mechatronics expertise in motors, bearings, gear trains and sensors.
• Experience with motion control hardware and encoders/limit switches.
• End-effector design experience is a plus.
• Life-science instrument/medical device exposure is a plus.
• ISO 13485 familiarity is advantageous.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Lead a mechanical engineering team designing products with multiple, powered DOFs.
• Design, build and test systems and critical components.
• Brainstorm, design, and compare potential product architectures against client metrics.
• Identify and perform critical engineering analyses and tests from concept evaluations to production verification.
• Assist client to define product specifications, schedules and resource planning.
• Manage project budget, schedule, and deliverables as the primary point of contact with clients. Coordinate work with other engineers across multiple offices.

Qualifications

• BSME required, MSME preferred.
• Minimum 8+ years of technical system-level design experience – from architectural definition to design to release to manufacturing.
• Project management experience leading a cross‑functional team.
• Mechatronics expertise: motors, bearings, gear trains, belt drives, and sensors.
• Experience with motion control hardware including steppers, servos, DC motors, and position sensors (encoders, limit switches, etc.).
• Experience with end‑effector design is a plus.
• Multiple projects designed, fabricated, and tested.
• Automation experience for industrial applications and manufacturing lines.
• Hands‑on system bring‑up and integration with a cross‑functional team.
• ME analysis experience in kinematics, structural, thermal, and tolerances.
• Materials and component selection expertise.
• Proficient in SolidWorks CAD and FEA.
• Experience with life‑science instrument and/or medical device design is a plus.
• Client interface capability and experience.
• Hands‑on practical performance in shop/lab work.
• Design for manufacturability (high/low volume).
• Project and technical reporting.
• Understanding of ISO 13485 (a plus).
