Job summary

Saildrone is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Design team, leading the design, integration, and regulatory compliance of complex electro-mechanical systems for our uncrewed surface vehicles.

Reporting to the VP Hardware Engineering, you will guide projects from architecture to production, drive cross-functional collaboration, and mentor junior engineers in Alameda, CA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering.
• 7+ years in marine engineering and complex mechanisms.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and production transitions.

Responsibilities

• Own the vehicle system design, interfaces, and performance against requirements.
• Lead naval architecture tasks including CG-CB and RAO analyses under ABS/DNV.
• Oversee budget, cost performance, and manufacturability.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for integration and production handoffs.
• Drive DFM, testing, and validation for long deployments.
