Job summary

Saildrone is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Design team in Alameda, CA. You will own the mechanical design and end-to-end development of complex components for our autonomous surface vehicles, driving projects from concept through production in a fast-paced R&D and manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience, with deep knowledge of CNC machining, composites, sheet metal, and 3D printing, and strong NX CAD

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years hands-on experience driving mechanical design in Marine, Aerospace, Automotive, or related industries.
• Experience designing for CNC machining, composites, sheet metal, castings, 3D printing, welding, and bonding.
• Advanced experience with CAD software (Siemens NX strongly preferred) and fundamentals of mechanical design.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and delivery of complex electro-mechanical parts, assemblies, and tooling from concept through production.
• Define system-level requirements across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering and create detailed diagrams/models.
• Develop 3D CAD models, maintain BOMs, and produce detailed drawings.
• Perform hand calculations, fluid/thermal analyses, and review test data to de-risk designs.
• Fabricate proof-of-concept prototypes and tooling using basic shop skills (manual machining, drilling, bonding, welding).
• Partner with Electrical Engineering to review wiring harness designs and coordinate with Project Managers on schedules.
• Uphold drafting standards and promote technical excellence across the team.
