Responsibilities

  • Complete complex mechanical designs as a Master CAD-user.
  • Know injection molding, die casting, stamping, machining, and materials considerations.
  • Specify test plans and validate complex mechanical systems against design requirements.
  • Lead risk mitigation, feasibility assessments, and vendor collaborations for mechanical designs.
  • Lead explorations of new technologies and estimate tooling, part cost, and design time.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-timeSenior Mechanical Engineer on our Outdoor product team at Garmin's location in Cary, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for providing advanced engineering skills and project planning for mechanical or electromechanical solutions or systems.

Essential Functions
  • Able to complete the most difficult tasks as a Master CAD-user including the completion of complex mechanical designs
  • Knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, material requirements, material performance, material limitations, etc.
  • Specify test plans, mock up and test complex mechanical systems with complex performance requirements to validate and verify compliance with design requirements
  • Manage basic tradeoffs, determine risk mitigation plans, determine project goal/objective feasibility, provide technical input to product development plans/concept documents, and drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs and understand risk
  • Lead explorations of new technologies and make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including: tooling, part cost, and design time
  • Knowledge of Industry and Garmin product qualification tests (environmental and others)
  • Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and offer process improvements and author new procedures
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering ANDa minimum of 5 years relevant experienceORan equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical designs
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Electronic packaging design experience
  • SolidWorks or OnShape experience
  • A passion for the outdoors
