Garmin Ltd. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for its Fitness Product team at the U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.

You will provide advanced mechanical engineering and project planning for electromechanical solutions across wearables and cycling products. The role requires a proven track record in complex mechanical design, CAD mastery (SolidWorks or OnShape), strong communication, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive product development in a fast-paced

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical designs.
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the most difficult tasks as a Master CAD-user including the completion of complex mechanical designs.
  • Specify test plans and test complex mechanical systems to validate and verify compliance with design requirements.
  • Manage basic tradeoffs, determine risk mitigation plans, and drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs.
  • Lead explorations of new technologies and make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including tooling, part cost, and design time.

Overview

We are seeking a full-timeSenior Mechanical Engineer on our Fitness Product team at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing advanced engineering skills and project planning for mechanical or electromechanical solutions or systems within our Fitness product line. Products could include wearables, cycling products, and more!

Essential Functions
  • Able to complete the most difficult tasks as a Master CAD-user including the completion of complex mechanical designs
  • Knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, material requirements, material performance, material limitations, etc.
  • Specify test plans, mock up and test complex mechanical systems with complex performance requirements to validate and verify compliance with design requirements
  • Manage basic tradeoffs, determine risk mitigation plans, determine project goal/objective feasibility, provide technical input to product development plans/concept documents, and drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs and understand risk
  • Lead explorations of new technologies and make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including: tooling, part cost, and design time
  • Knowledge of Industry and Garmin product qualification tests (environmental and others)
  • Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and offer process improvements and author new procedures
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical designs
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Electronic packaging design experience
  • Solidworks or OnShape CAD experience
  • A passion for running, cycling, swimming, and being active
