Job summary

Radiant, based in El Segundo, CA, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design critical Kaleidos structures, performing stress and thermomechanical analyses to ensure safety and operability in extreme environments.

You will lead trade studies, BOM creation, supplier development, and subassembly management, contributing to the first new commercial reactor design in over 50 years by 2026. This onsite role calls for strong communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 6+ years of experience designing structures.
• 4+ years of experience performing stress analysis using hand calculations and FE tools.

Responsibilities

• Own critical structures such as mass-efficient transportable shielding systems and high-temperature graphite/metallic systems.
• Conduct trade studies and develop designs to meet program requirements.
• Perform detailed thermomechanical analysis (static strength, durability/fatigue) and dynamic analysis (vibration, shock).
• Develop and execute manufacturing/assembly instructions and test plans; create and manage a BOM.
• Own subassembly design, manufacturing, and test schedules.
• Own risk analysis (FMEA) for subsystems.
• Collect requirements and provide feedback to engineers across functions.
