Job summary

McKim & Creed, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for their Clearwater, Florida office to provide technical and design services on power distribution projects.

This position requires leading design projects and delivering construction drawings for institutional and commercial facilities. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree, Florida PE licensure, and 8-15 years of experience.

Overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Building, Energy and Infrastructure (BEI) Group in our new Clearwater, Florida office. In this role you will provide technical and design services in support of power distribution, lighting and fire alarm projects. You will lead our design projects as part of a multi‑discipline team to produce mechanical design and construction drawings and specifications for institutional, commercial, municipal and industrial facilities.

During Your Work Day, You Will:
  • Act as a technical lead on multi‑discipline project teams supporting mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection) systems for a wide range of facilities, including healthcare, higher education, institutional, federal, state, local government, K‑12 education, and commercial/industrial projects.
  • May serve as the Lead Mechanical Engineer, producing design and construction drawings, specifications, and acting as Engineer of Record for the work performed and for subordinate staff.
  • Serve as the client interface for projects they lead.
  • Undertake and direct evaluations of mechanical equipment and systems, preparing design computations and assessments.
  • Generate and oversee mechanical design and construction drawings using REVIT and AutoCAD.
  • Observe mechanical construction progress and generate field observation reports.
  • Assess the condition of mechanical systems within existing facilities.
  • Ensure completion of mechanical design tasks within budget and on schedule.
  • Assist in the development of subordinate staff in best mechanical design practices.
  • Communicate and coordinate design, writing of reports, and correspondence with other discipline professionals and client representatives to complete work efficiently.
  • Stay current with local, state, and federal design standards and regulations.
  • Help develop new work and clients related to mechanical design services for a variety of facility types.
What You’ll Need:
  • Current Florida PE licensure.
  • Florida‑based project experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical focus from an ABET‑accredited university.
  • 8‑15 years of documented applicable experience working on similar facilities.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Florida with current NCEES certification.
  • Resident of the Tampa Bay/Clearwater area with Florida‑based experience.
  • Ability to work in person a minimum of three (3) days weekly in the Clearwater office.
  • Willingness to travel to project locations and client meetings throughout Southwest, Central, East, and North Florida, with occasional travel beyond this area.
  • Significant experience using Autodesk REVIT in a design‑related field and proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam.
  • Strong knowledge of the ASHRAE Standards commensurate with experience.
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform field survey duties.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record.

  • Ability to complete work consistently with flexibility to accommodate varying project demands.
  • Experience leading design efforts of subordinate staff.
  • Maintains a high level of precision and accuracy, methodical in approach.
  • High technical aptitude, interest in technology, and staying current in the field.
