Job summary

McKim & Creed, Inc. is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead BEI group projects in the Clearwater/Tampa Bay area. You will manage design teams and develop REVIT/AutoCAD drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection across institutional, commercial and industrial facilities.

The role requires a Florida-registered PE with 8–15 years of experience, in-office presence 3 days/week, and readiness to travel within Florida. Excellent client interface and project leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with mechanical focus (ABET-accredited).
• 8-15 years of applicable experience on facilities as described.
• Registered Professional Engineer in Florida (NCEES).
• Willing to relocate to/to the Tampa Bay/ Clearwater area with Florida-based experience and in-office 3 days weekly.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design on HVAC, plumbing and fire protection for healthcare, education, institutional and commercial facilities.
• Produce design/construction drawings and specifications; act as Engineer of Record for projects.
• Interface with clients and coordinate with project team across disciplines.
• Oversee field observations and progress reporting; ensure on-schedule and within budget.
• Mentor/subordinate staff in design practices and standards.
• Maintain current knowledge of ASHRAE standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Travel to project locations across southwest, central, east and north Florida as required.

OVERVIEW: We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Building, Energy and Infrastructure (BEI) Group in either our new Clearwater, Florida office or within the Tampa Bay area. In this role you will providing technical and design services in support of power distribution, lighting and fire alarm projects.

Serving as the technical lead you will lead our design projects as part of a multi-discipline project team to produce Mechanical design/construction drawings and specifications for institutional, commercial, municipal and industrial facilities. During Your Work-Day, You Will

• This person is a technical lead as part of a multi-discipline project team on projects in the Buildings, Energy, and Infrastructure group, in support of Mechanical (HVAC, plumbing and fire protection) systems for facility types including healthcare; higher education; institutional facilities; federal, state and local government; K-12 education and other commercial/industrial facilities.
• This person may serve as the Lead Mechanical Engineer for projects, producing design/construction drawings and specifications and ability to act as the Engineer of Record for the work they perform and the subordinates they supervise.
• Acts as the Client interface for projects they lead.
• Undertakes and directs evaluations of mechanical equipment/systems and prepares design computations and assessments.
• Generates and oversees mechanical design/construction drawings utilizing REVIT and AutoCAD software.
• Observes mechanical construction progress and generates field observation reports.
• Assesses the condition of mechanical systems within existing facilities.
• Responsible for completion of mechanical design tasks within budget and on schedule.
• Assists in the development of subordinate staff in mechanical design best practices.
• Communicates and coordinates the design, writing of reports and correspondence with other discipline professionals, as well as representatives of the Client’s organization to complete work efficiently.
• Stays current with local, state & federal design standards and regulations.

What You'll Need

• FLORIDA BASED PROJECT EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering with mechanical focus, from an ABET-accredited university.
• 8-15 years of documented applicable experience working on facilities similar to those described above.
• Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Florida, with current NCEES.
• Resides or able to relocate to the Tamp Bay/Clearwater Area with Florda based experience
• Ability to work in person a minimum of three (3) days weekly in our Clearwater or Tampa office.
• Ability to travel to project locations and client meetings throughout southwest, central, east and north Florida. Travel beyond this primary area may occasionally also be required.
• Significant experience using Autodesk REVIT gained in a similar design-related field. Experience with AutoCAD is also required.
• Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software, as well as Bluebeam.
• Strong knowledge of the ASHRAE Standards commensurate with their years of experience.
• Ability to climb ladders and perform field survey duties.
• Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record.
