Job summary

SYSTRA USA is expanding its Greater NYC Area practice and seeks a Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Seller/Doer) to lead building systems design and client development for public housing, education, and transit projects.

You will guide HVAC, plumbing and fire protection, manage proposals, and collaborate with transit teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions while mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with NYC standards and agency guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration in New York and/or New Jersey; reciprocity possible.
• 10+ years of mechanical building systems and facility design experience (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
• Design experience with Greater NYC public agencies (NYC SCA, NYCHA, MTA).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit (MEP); experience with TRACE 3D Plus or Carrier HAP.
• Strong knowledge of NYC Building Code, NYS Energy Code, ASHRAE, NFPA and related criteria.
• Excellent project management, problem-solving, analytical and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical building systems engineering for complex infrastructure projects, including new construction and renovations.
• Interface with clients and agencies (NYCHA, NYC SCA, MTA) to define requirements and secure MEP task orders.
• Define mechanical scope, estimate fees, and develop proposals for public housing, education, and rail transit sectors.
• Oversee detailed engineering calculations, load modeling and mechanical design for transit facilities and buildings.
• Collaborate with internal teams (signals, traction power, structural, architecture) for integrated solutions.
• Create, review and stamp technical documentation in line with agency guidelines.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers as the practice expands.
• Conduct site assessments in rail environments, schools and housing complexes for renovations.
• Manage project scheduling, budgeting and resources for timely, compliant delivery.
