Job summary

Applied Materials in Santa Clara, CA is seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze and optimize complex mechanical systems for cutting-edge materials equipment.

You will lead projects, collaborate with suppliers, and translate concepts into production-ready drawings and specifications using NX or Inventor.

This full‑time role includes a 10% travel expectation, relocation eligibility, and bonus/stock compensation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 4-7 years of experience.
• Experience with CAD, thermodynamics, sheet metal design, GD&T, flow analysis.
• Experience designing mechanical systems using motors, actuators, bearings, guides, linkages, or motion mechanisms.
• Experience taking designs from concept through prototype, qualification, and production release.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot difficult mechanical issues.

Responsibilities

• Identify and troubleshoot a variety of difficult mechanical problems.
• Define, coordinate, perform and document engineering test reports.
• Develop, design, or modify mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, or drawings/specifications of difficult scope.
• Perform engineering analysis of difficult scope with limited supervision.
• Technically lead or execute projects; develop key suppliers and generate mechanical product specifications.
• Design, develop and implement custom mechanical tooling, fixturing and associated processes; enable the handling, assembly and/or disassembly of parts; establish standards across all operational processes.
• Implement concepts for a variety of complex product issues and mechanical solutions.
• Clearly communicate complex or sensitive information; build consensus.
