Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. in Knoxville, TN seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to act as a versatile generalist across the Mechanical Engineering department, delivering HVAC, utility, and piping projects for industrial and government clients.

This is a hands-on role, requiring practical design, calculations, and mentoring of junior staff. You will move between scopes as projects shift, collaborate with civil and electrical teams, and support proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and PE License (required).
• 10+ years of breadth across HVAC, utility systems, and piping design.
• Ability to move between different mechanical scopes as projects demand.

Responsibilities

• Personally perform HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, and ductwork design for assigned projects from concept through issued-for-construction.
• Support design of utility systems: compressed air, cooling water, potable water, hydraulic and lubricating systems.
• Support piping design tasks including layout, routing, and basic sizing with Piping & Pressure Systems teams.
• Perform process calculations such as flow rate and pressure drop within Mechanical group.
• Conduct field data collection to support scoping across HVAC, utility, and piping equipment.
