Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial and Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Senior-Level Mechanical Engineer. This role is located in Lenexa, KS, with flexible work options. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in mechanical or process engineering, with expertise in areas such as biogas, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations, pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, process piping, industrial boilers, or similar industrial facilities. Familiarity with current design tools, software, and documentation standards is required. The candidate should be adaptable, growth-oriented, and capable of contributing to project success through technical excellence and teamwork.

Our Industrial and Water Engineering Group specializes in EPC and design-build projects in sectors like manufacturing, industrial buildings, pulp and paper, mineral processing, renewable natural gas, and utilities.

Location

This position is based in Lenexa, KS or Lone Tree, CO, with up to 25% travel expected. Flexible work arrangements are available.

Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee mechanical systems for various industrial facilities, including biogas, water treatment, pump stations, and pipelines. Prepare calculations, select materials, and ensure compliance with codes.
  • Complete design calculations and specify equipment such as conveyors, tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, and boilers.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and manage third-party engineering efforts.
  • Review contracts and RFPs, incorporating requirements into the design.
  • Manage project budgets and schedules, overseeing internal and external design partners.
  • Conduct bid analyses for equipment and generate design deliverables like PFDs, P&IDs, and datasheets.
  • Support construction activities, including site visits and issue resolution.
  • Develop project schedules, work plans, and staffing strategies.
  • Perform early-stage design work such as conceptual studies and process flow diagrams.
  • Mentor and advise team members on standards and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required; P.E. preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Leadership experience in engineering teams is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and technical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with hydraulic simulation software (AFT Fathom/AFT Arrow) is preferred.

Other requirements include reliable attendance, effective communication, safety consciousness, and flexibility to work overtime or at various locations as needed.

Base salary ranges from $125,000 to $170,000 annually, depending on experience and location. The posting is active from 06/24/2025 to 08/19/2025. We offer comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
