Job summary

Airloom in Wyoming is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead conceptual design and analysis for wind-energy components. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative mechanical concepts and ensure performance through structural, thermal, and fluid analyses.

You will prototype, test, and verify designs while working with manufacturing to ensure cost-effective, manufacturable solutions. Mentorship to junior engineers is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD.
• Experience with FEA/CFD, materials, margins, and allowables.
• DFM, fabrication, and V&V testing for manufacturability.
• Experience with aerospace/industrial standards (IEC, ASTM, ISO, ASME, SAE, FAA).

Responsibilities

• Conceptual design with cross-functional teams.
• Structural, thermal, and fluid analyses to optimize designs.
• Prototype fabrication and testing to validate concepts.
• Collaborate with manufacturing for cost-effective, manufacturable designs.
• Develop technical documentation and design specifications.

Job description

Position Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks)
• Experience in the aerospace, automotive, or industrial sector is preferred
• Deep understanding of allowables, materials (metallics and composites), boundary conditions, and margin associ ated with tools like FEA and CFD
• Metallics - complex design using 4XXX, 4XX, A572, A36, steels as well as 2024, 6061 and 7075 aluminum
• Composites - complex design with fiberglass and carbon fiber lamina and laminate
• Bonding - complex design principles for injection and surface structural bonding
• Fasteners - Detailed fastener analysis techniques for highly loaded slip-critical joint design
• Fatigue and Ultimate - Complex design and verification methods at system-level (vehicle-level) for fatigue, stiffness, and ultimate strength driven design. Detailed understanding of margins and allowables required.
• Substantial experience transitioning products from design into manufacturing at scale
• Deep understanding of DFM, fabrication, and V&V testing to resolve tolerances and margins to requirements
• Experience with aerospace or industrial standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, ASTM, ISO, ASME, SAE, FAA)
• Experience collaborating directly with manufacturing groups and assessing cost-down opportunities

Position Duties:

• Conceptual Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative mechanical concepts and solutions
• Analysis: Conduct structural, thermal, and fluid flow analyses to optimize designs and ensure performance
• Prototyping and Testing: Oversee the fabrication and testing of prototypes to validate design concepts
• Manufacturing Support: Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost effective
• Documentation: Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and engineering documentation
• Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
