Job summary

Switch is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design and support mechanical systems for hyperscale data centers, owning work from concept through construction and ensuring performance, cost, and code compliance.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver buildable designs across sites, drive design standards, and review consultants while supporting permitting and construction phases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required.
• 8+ years designing mechanical systems for large-scale facilities (HVAC/plumbing).
• Experience with cooling systems and mechanical infrastructure in data centers.
• Knowledge of mechanical and plumbing codes and standards.
• Experience coordinating with external design consultants.
• Familiar with tools like Bluebeam, Excel, Smartsheet, MS Office.
• Ability to review technical designs and support construction execution.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical and piping systems for hyperscale data center projects.
• Review and guide work from external engineering consultants.
• Develop and maintain design standards, specs, and basis of design documents.
• Select and evaluate mechanical equipment with vendors and manufacturers.
• Ensure designs meet codes, standards, and utility requirements.
• Coordinate with internal teams, utilities, AHJs, and construction partners.
• Support projects through design reviews, permitting, and construction phases.
• Conduct site visits for assessments, validation, and construction support.
