Job summary

Schnabel Engineering is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years of experience to support planning, analysis, design, modernization, and construction of hydromechanical systems for dams and related facilities. The candidate will lead mechanical design efforts, mentor staff, and collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 10+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license and ability to obtain licensure in other jurisdictions.
• Experience with design, analysis, inspection, or rehabilitation of heavy mechanical and hydromechanical systems.
• Project management experience, including the offer and execution phases.
• Experience preparing technical specifications and construction documents.
• Strong understanding of mechanical system design principles and installation.
• Experience in business development to grow mechanical engineering services.
• Ability to lead staff in a matrix organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and evaluation of systems related to dams, levees, hydroelectric facilities, pump stations, intakes, and fish facilities.
• Develop designs for gates, stoplogs, bulkheads, gate hoists, penstocks, and valves.
• Perform structural and mechanical calculations, equipment sizing, load analysis, and fatigue assessments.
• Prepare engineering reports, specs, and design drawings.
• Conduct condition assessments and inspections of hydromechanical equipment.
• Evaluate rehabilitation options and recommend modernization.
• Serve as project/discipline lead on multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate with internal and external engineering teams and mentor staff.
• Support permitting, regulatory reviews, and owner coordination.
• Review submittals, RFIs, and field support during project execution.
• Participate in FAT, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Travel as necessary to support role functions.
