Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with HVAC and plumbing expertise to take on increasing project leadership responsibilities. This hybrid role supports work from home with office balance, and may be based in multiple U.S. offices.

You will design and review mechanical systems, ensure compliance with codes and standards, and mentor junior staff while contributing to resilient, sustainable environments. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• EIT certification or FE exam within 18 months of hire.
• 5 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC and plumbing systems including master planning, feasibility studies, and mechanical systems (e.g., co-generation).
• Review draft designs for regulatory compliance and adherence to firm policies.
• Perform site reviews to align designs with location specifications.
• Develop technical papers and design documentation for publication in journals.
• Attend industry conferences and collaborate with sales teams to maximize outreach.
• Provide mentorship to junior staff and supervise project work as needed.
