Job summary

Realta Fusion in Madison, Wisconsin, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design and integration of ion sources, HV systems, and RF hardware for our fusion pilot program Hammir.

You will work with physicists, engineers, and technicians to commission first-of-a-kind experiments, optimize thermal and vacuum performance, and deliver precision parts for a rapidly growing startup.

Qualifications

• Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–10+ years designing ion sources or accelerator components.
• Proficient in CAD and simulation tools (SolidWorks, NX, Ansys, COMSOL).

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and integration of beamline components and ion source assemblies.
• Design and specify HV hardware and RF components with vacuum and thermal considerations.
• Perform thermal, structural, electromagnetic, and vacuum analysis using Ansys or COMSOL.
• Produce detailed mechanical drawings and specs for fabrication.
• Collaborate with physicists, RF/electrical engineers and controls teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth.
