Job summary

Pacific Fusion is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design, structural analysis, and hardware implementation for our nuclear fusion demonstration system. You will own complex hardware from concept through detailed CAD modeling, analysis, and system integration.

You will collaborate with physics, systems engineering, and manufacturing teams to address high-impact, high-precision challenges and translate physics requirements into robust hardware solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s or PhD is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end mechanical design, 3D CAD modeling, and detail engineering of complex high‑performance components and assemblies.
• Perform hand calculations, first-principles design, and advanced finite element analysis.
• Translate physics requirements and boundary conditions into robust models and hardware specs.
• Conduct tolerance stack‑up analyses to ensure strict interface requirements.
• Apply DFM and DFA best practices to optimize performance, weight, cost, and lead times.
• Interface with cross-functional teams to resolve design trade-offs and mitigate risk.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation including GD&T drawings and design review packages.
