Role Description

The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is focused on designing the battery cell, module, and full pack system that forms the foundation of our innovative utility‑scale multi‑day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high‑volume manufacturing at Form Factory.

We’re hiring a hands‑on Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the design of subsystems within our electrolyte & water management system. This is the circulatory system of Form’s iron‑air battery technology and it is critical to the system’s successful operation. In this role, you will play a key role in the product definition and detailed design stages, first‑of‑a‑kind build activities, vendor engagement, and design for manufacturing. You can expect to work on prototyping efforts across the company, build and validate models of our system, drive us through a series of design releases, and work closely with a cross‑functional team of chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineers to design, prototype, and test the storage systems. You will be responsible for design validation before the final manufacturing release.

Relocation assistance is available.

What you’ll do:
  • Design, prototype, and test the electrolyte & water management system to meet critical performance requirements

  • Use first principles of fluid flow to optimize system design and inform design architecture decisions

  • Prepare and lead design reviews and trade studies covering your system components

  • Fabricate and test first‑of‑a‑kind prototypes to validate system design choices

  • Conduct critical vendor engagements and collaborate with manufacturing engineers to transition system designs from prototype to high‑volume production

  • Collaborate with the Electrical and Firmware teams to optimize actuator and sensor integration

  • Work with the battery cell and systems team to co‑develop auxiliary systems

  • Champion safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processes

What you’ll bring:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor’s with 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical design of equipment, liquid, or gas handling systems

  • Understanding of first‑principles modeling and design and experience optimizing designs for manufacturing and cost‑down

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment or with contract manufacturing vendors

  • Demonstrated experience optimizing mechanical design, balance‑of‑plant systems, and interdisciplinary interfaces of fluid systems

  • Direct experience in product development within an early‑stage environment
