Job summary

Form Energy, an American technology company, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Weirton, WV to join the Engineering Mechanical Design team. This on-site role focuses on electrode mechanical design for high-volume manufacturing of iron-air battery systems, with emphasis on DFMA and CATIA-based development.

You will lead on-the-ground design efforts, prototype, work with manufacturing and vendors to move from prototype to production, and ensure designs meet reliability and cost targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years in mechanical design.
• Experience with CAD, CATIA modeling and drafting.
• Design for mass manufacturing and assembly; DFMA.
• Hands-on prototyping and production environment experience.
• Familiarity with battery tech or energy storage is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead design efforts including failure analysis and specifications.
• Prototype designs and collaborate to build integrated prototypes.

Role Description

The Electrode Mechanical Engineering team within the Core Technology group at Form is multidisciplinary and focused on delivering qualified battery anode and cathode designs that meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines for Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system.

What you’ll do:

• Lead on-the-ground design efforts including failure analysis, setting specs, and updating electrode mechanical designs
• Perform hands-on prototyping of designs and collaborate with broader teams to build integrated prototypes
• Work with vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production
• Run and analyze trials to inform specs and future design direction
• Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc)

What you’ll bring:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 4+ years industry experience in mechanical design
• Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically CATIA modeling and drafting
• Proficient in component design for mass manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), especially formed / stamped sheet metal components.
• Proficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop or production environment
• Familiarity with mechanical verification testing
• Experience working with batteries, energy storage, fuel cells, or electrolyzers is a plus
• Experience with high volume manufacturing and automation is a plus

Where you’ll work:

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV—an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
