Job summary

Form Energy is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to draft 2D/3D models and take designs from prototyping to high-volume production. You will work with Test, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure manufacturability, performance, and cost targets are met.

Role focuses on module and enclosure design, with emphasis on first-principles modeling and manufacturing process optimization across electronics assembly, sheet metal, and welding. Berkeley site, full-time.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of post-baccalaureate experience in mechanical design engineering-related occupation.
  • 4 years of experience with 3D CAD and 2D drafting using SolidWorks or a similar program.
  • 4 years of experience with first-principles modeling.
  • 4 years of experience designing and optimizing models for manufacturing and cost-down.
  • 4 years of experience with a variety of manufacturing processes, including electronics assembly, sheet metal assembly, and welding.
  • 2 years of experience with fabrication techniques including sheet metal and CNC machining.

Responsibilities

  • Design and prototype mechanical and electro-mechanical module components meeting performance and manufacturability requirements.
  • Guide critical vendor engagements and transition designs to high-volume production with manufacturing engineers.
  • Co-develop interface requirements with Cell Design and Enclosure Design teams.
  • Perform compliance studies and testing for module components.
  • Participate in line bring up, fabrication, and testing of prototypes to validate design choices.
  • Create system-level functional requirements from product-level requirements.
