Job summary

The Building People, LLC, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead DoD facility control system design and technical support. You will design UMCS, HVAC controls, DDC, SCADA, FAS, ESS, and metering, and prepare calculations, drawings, and sequences of operation.

You will coordinate interfaces, participate in factory/site tests, commissioning, and as-built updates, and collaborate with senior engineers and field teams to deliver compliant, reliable systems.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in Electrical and/or Mechanical engineering, incl. at least 5 years in the relevant area.
  • Active U.S. PE license in Electrical or Mechanical engineering (required).
  • Experience producing engineered designs and specs for UMCS, HVAC controls, DDC, SCADA, FAS, ESS, and metering.
  • Proficiency drafting design documents: load/capacity calculations, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, wiring diagrams, hydronic/airside schematics, sequences of operation, point lists, equipment schedules.
  • Experience planning factory/site/integrated tests and commissioning; handle RFIs/submittals.
  • Knowledge of codes: NFPA 70/72, 101, ASHRAE 55/62.1/90.1, IMC, IBC; UFGS/UFC.
  • Familiarity with ICs cybersecurity touchpoints coordinating with cybersecurity teams.
  • Construction administration: submittals, change support, field surveys, punchlists.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for stakeholder coordination and deliverables.
  • Willingness to travel to active project sites, including secure facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and support for DoD facility control system projects including UMCS, HVAC controls, DDC, SCADA, FAS, ESS, and metering.
  • Prepare calculations, drawings, specifications and sequences of operation.
  • Coordinate power and controls interfaces; review submittals and RFIs.
  • Support factory/site testing, commissioning, and as-built updates.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, PMs, and field teams to deliver code-compliant, reliable systems.
  • Travel to active project sites, including secure facilities.
