Job summary

GCS Recruitment is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design custom automated machinery, fixtures and tooling for high-precision fiber optic production equipment. You will own the machine from concept through deployment, collaborating with controls, vision, and process engineers to ensure performance targets are met.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years in automation or capital equipment, and strong SolidWorks and GD&T expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in automation or capital equipment.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5.
• Hands-on experience with design, build, test and deployment of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Architect and design custom automated machinery, tooling, fixtures and semi-automated solutions to improve cycle time, ergonomics, safety and quality.
• Own mechanical design of mechanisms, frames, multi-axis systems, guarding and precision tooling.
• Apply GD&T, tolerance stack-ups and DF M/ DFA for micron-level tolerance assemblies.
• Select and integrate pneumatics, motors, actuators, bearings, sensors and safety hardware.
• Produce full design packages: 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions and maintenance docs.
• Lead prototyping, bench testing and process trials.
• Build, debug, calibrate and validate equipment; support FAT and qualification.
• Collaborate with controls, vision and process engineers in design reviews.
