Job summary

VEIR in Woburn, MA, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the System Integration & Heat Transfer team. You will drive mechanical design from concept through production for superconducting systems, leading key assemblies and coordinating with cross-functional groups.

You will apply CAD/FEA to ensure robust thermal, structural, and mechanical performance, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate on cryogenic cooling integration for scalable products.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• End-to-end product development lifecycle from concept through production.
• CAD design and assembly of multi-body systems; external fabrication drawings.
• Familiarity with ASME 31.3 and/or BPVC for vessel components.
• Experience with FEA software for detailed analysis.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME in mechanical, thermal, and structural design for superconducting systems.
• Lead design and testing of key assemblies for low- and medium-voltage systems.
• Perform detailed mechanical/structural analysis including thermal interactions.
• Define mechanical requirements and oversee qualification testing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy systems with cryogenic thermal management.
• Review calculations and mentor junior engineers.
