Job summary

Carbon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer on the Continuous Improvement team in Sunnyvale to design, build, and sustain additive manufacturing solutions, from printers to new cleaning methods. This role resides on a cross-functional hardware team, owning design, analysis, and testing, collaborating with design, electrical, software, and operations, and working with suppliers to ensure quality.

The position requires 5 days in the Sunnyvale office, with some travel to the Santa Clara facility.

Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree.
  • 3+ years experience taking mechanical designs from concept to production.
  • Strong ability to perform engineering analysis (tolerance, safety, thermal, stress, fatigue, lifetime, manufacturability, failure modes, cost).
  • Familiarity with GD&T, DFMEA, and SPC.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to define requirements and troubleshoot issues.
  • Experience with material selection in sheet metal, metal, plastic, and elastomers.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication methods, plastic injection molding, casting, and CNC machining.

Responsibilities

  • Own design, architecture and testing of complex parts and subassemblies and drive changes through Production.
  • Perform engineering analyses of parts and assemblies (tolerance, safety, thermal, stress, fatigue, lifetime, manufacturability, failure modes, cost).
  • Collaborate with Industrial Design, Electrical, Optical, Software, and other teams to create requirements and troubleshoot issues.
  • Coordinate with Operations (Sourcing, Planning, Quality, Manufacturing, Production, Field Service) to support released products and field issues.
  • Create and maintain clear engineering specifications and documentation for knowledge transfer.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing to ensure quality and performance.
