Senior Mechanical Engineer – Aviation & Federal (Kansas City)

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical design project teams to create world-class designs for a variety of projects including power, process, healthcare, airports, industrial, and government facilities. The role involves leading the project throughout the design and construction phases, adjusting mechanical plans based on budget, design factors, or client needs.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead mechanical design from conceptual to completion, aligned with project requirements.
  2. Prepare specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid summaries, and purchase recommendations for mechanical equipment.
  3. Review vendor drawings and coordinate data interface with suppliers and other disciplines.
  4. Contribute to project scheduling, scope, budget, staffing, and construction planning, managing change orders effectively.
  5. Apply expert knowledge of mechanical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
  6. Develop non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
  7. Review production drawings and project data for accuracy and compliance.
  8. Oversee construction administration, including site inspections and resolving installation issues.
  9. Lead field inspections, measurements, and calculations for clients.
  10. Prepare technical reports and industry publications.
  11. Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and developing new business opportunities.
  12. Participate in sales, marketing, and proposal development.
  13. Develop project budgets, cost estimates, and report on project performance.
  14. Provide leadership and mentorship within the mechanical engineering team.
  15. Ensure adherence to QA/QC, safety policies, and effective interdisciplinary communication.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned, complying with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program with 7+ years of experience; EPC project experience preferred.
  • Or, Bachelor's in Mechanical Technology with successful FE exam completion and 7+ years of experience.
  • Or, Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of experience.
  • Expertise in mechanical design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Leadership experience in large project design teams.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel; PE license preferred.

This position is full-time, based in Kansas City, MO, with approximately 25% travel. The role remains open until filled, with a minimum posting duration of 72 hours.
