Job summary

OKSI is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III in Torrance, CA to design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems across autonomous platforms and sensor systems. You will work with cross-functional teams to develop integrated solutions from concept through fielded systems.

The role emphasizes hands-on prototyping, testing, and production-ready design (DFM). A Bachelor's in mechanical engineering and 4+ years' experience are required; a Master’s is a plus. Hybrid schedule and career growth available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
• 4+ years of relevant work experience.
• CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, solid mechanics.
• Experience with FEA, optomechanical design, thermal management or CFD is a plus.
• Familiarity with ISO/ASME manufacturing standards.
• Basic machine shop experience (soldering, lathe, mill).

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems using CAD software.
• Lead projects and mentor junior engineers; ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
• Troubleshoot design, performance, mechanical, optical, or manufacturing problems.
• Collaborate with optical, electrical, software, and systems teams.
• Develop, fabricate, test, and iterate prototypes; plan lab/field tests.
• Prepare technical reports, design docs, and project plans.
• Support transition from prototype to production, including DFM and tolerance management.
• Contribute to process improvements and stay current with industry trends.
