Job summary

STE Aethon Inc. in Pittsburgh is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and implementation of mechanical and electromechanical systems for next-gen autonomous robotic platforms.

You will guide projects from concept to production, collaborating with Electrical, Software, Systems, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams. The role requires 10+ years designing complex systems in robotics or related industries, strong CAD/FEA skills, and experience with DFMA/DFMEA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years designing complex mechanical/electromechanical systems in robotics/industrial equipment.
• Proven track record delivering products from concept through production and deployment.
• Ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams on complex projects.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and advanced modeling/documentation.
• Proficiency with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Experience creating manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and ECOs.
• Strong knowledge of structural design, fatigue, and reliability.
• Thermal management experience for electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical/EM solutions for autonomous mobile robotic platforms.
• Own lifecycle of mechanical subsystems from requirements through mass production.
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Translate product requirements into detailed mechanical constraints and validation plans.
• Conduct concept development, trade studies, and feasibility analyses.
• Lead creation and review of mechanical specs, interfaces, DFMEA, test plans, and reports.
• Coordinate with leadership and cross-functional teams to align with schedules.
• Plan and execute verification, design validation, and production validation testing.
• Develop component and assembly models, drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing docs.
• Perform tolerance analyses, structural calculations, fatigue analyses, and FEA.
• Interface with suppliers, CM, and external partners for development and readiness.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and service to improve reliability and cost.
• Drive continuous improvement for products, processes, and cost.
