Job summary

Ricoh USA, Inc. in Boulder, CO is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead hands-on design of automation and robotics for industrial printing and manufacturing.

You will work across a multidisciplinary team to define requirements, prototype, build, debug, and productionize hardware. The role emphasizes designing mechanical/electromechanical systems, tooling, frame work, and control cabinet layouts, with a focus on durability, maintainability, and integration with software and machine-vision

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field required.
• 8+ years of professional mechanical design experience.
• Experience delivering complex machines from concept to working hardware.
• Hands-on fabrication, assembly, wiring, and debugging in a shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical and electromechanical designs from concept through production hardware.
• Design end-of-arm tooling, grippers, base frames, guarding, and pneumatic systems.
• Design sheet metal, machined, and fabricated components with DFM coordination with fabrication shops.
• Define requirements and carry designs through to working hardware for bespoke automation builds.
• Specify and integrate motion systems, actuators, sensors, and pneumatics with sizing and cycle-time analysis.
• Design industrial control cabinets, panel layouts, cable routing, and harnessing.
• Create optical and imaging fixtures for inline inspection systems.
• Produce manufacturing-ready documentation: 3D CAD, electrical schematics, BOMs, assembly instructions, test protocols.
• Coordinate with software and controls engineers for system integration.
• Build, wire, and debug prototypes in-house; support installation and commissioning.
• Support safety and certification activities including risk assessment and CE/UL paths.
• Visit customer sites to define requirements and support deployments.
