Universal Avionics in Duluth, GA is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to own complex electromechanical and opto‑mechanical designs for avionics products. You will perform thermal and structural analyses, develop prototypes, and drive qualification through testing and environmental processes.

The role requires an MS in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years in integrated teams, and hands‑on CAD expertise with Creo and Windchill to deliver reliable flight hardware.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in mechanical engineering required.
• 5+ years electromechanical design experience.
• Experience with thermal and structural finite element analysis.
• Proficiency in PTC Creo 3D CAD.
• Knowledge of PCB assemblies in product design.
• Experience with machining/mill operations and sheet‑metal fabrication.
• 5+ years working in integrated multidisciplinary project teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate requirements into reliable mechanical and opto‑mechanical designs.
• Lead complex design activities from concept to detailed product definition.
• Apply thermal and structural analysis to verify performance before hardware qualification.
• Validate results through prototypes, testing, and iteration.
• Support environmental qualification and sustaining activities.
• Collaborate across engineering functions to align designs with system requirements.
• Maintain CAD data and product definitions with Windchill and Creo.
• Provide independent technical judgment on complex assignments and solutions.
