Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with ten to fifteen years of experience. The ideal candidate will be a self‑motivated team player who works closely with our business development team and other discipline leads to develop technical proposals and take a proactive role in marketing and business development. This role provides the opportunity to mentor a dedicated team of engineering professionals within a collaborative, multidisciplinary office and to work directly with clients providing consulting services.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Manage and design multiple concurrent projects.
• Interpret technical drawings, including ductwork plans, piping plans, sections, isometric piping drawings, and bills of materials.
• Lead design team efforts and manage project teams for budget and schedule control.
• Develop fee‑based and qualification‑based proposals.
• Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using standard industry programs.
• Familiarize with relevant codes: mechanical, energy, plumbing, and ensure designs conform with all applicable codes and client standards.
• Multi‑task and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
• Apply strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities.
• Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
• Use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; understand database concepts and work with marketing databases and proposal resources files.
• Conduct marketing and business‑development activities.
• Contribute positively to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.
• Travel as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering (required).
• 10 to 15 years of engineering experience.
• Experience with load calculation software.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Project management experience and/or certifications.
• Desire to lead inter‑disciplinary projects and project teams.
• Experience with energy modeling (plus).
• Local AHJ experience and relationships (plus).
• Active local industry involvement (plus).
• Experience in the local AEC consulting market is preferred.
