Role Description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Wilmington, NC. This role is responsible for leading the design and development of large-scale injection molding machinery and related equipment, including concept generation, detailed mechanical design, and validation. Day-to-day tasks include performing mechanical analyses, creating and reviewing CAD models and drawings, specifying components, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and cost targets. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will manage engineering projects from concept through commissioning, coordinate with manufacturing and electrical engineering teams during build and testing, and support continuous improvement efforts across products and processes. This role also involves contributing to research and development initiatives, troubleshooting equipment in production, and providing technical support to internal stakeholders and customers.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering, with demonstrated experience in mechanical system design and analysis.
- Proficiency in Machine Design and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for creating detailed models, assemblies, and drawings.
- Experience in Project Management, including planning, scheduling, coordinating resources, and delivering projects on time and within scope.
- Background in Research and Development (R&D), with the ability to investigate new concepts, prototype solutions, and implement design improvements.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Experience in industrial machinery, plastics processing equipment, or similar heavy manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and design for manufacturability and assembly.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and standards, and familiarity with relevant safety and industry regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams on-site.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for documentation, reporting, and cross-functional coordination.
